Subscriber Queries
What are the benefits of taking out a subscription?
As a subscriber to The Nightwatchman you will receive each issue directly to your door when it is released. You will also save 25% (if you take out a rolling subscription or 13% (if you take out a 12-month subscription) on the cover price. Taking out a rolling subscription protects you from any price increases as we’ll keep the price the same for you when it comes to renewing in a year’s time.
How can I pay for a subscription?
Rolling subscriptions are set up with a recurring payment option so that you don’t have to lift a finger to renew your subscription next year. These can be set up with using Stripe, PayPal (PayPal account required) or by Direct Debit through our website. Sadly we cannot set up recurring subscriptions over the phone, but if you require any assistance in purchasing a subscription then please call on 0203 696 5730 or email us and we will be happy to assist.
12-month subscriptions, which will not automatically renew at the end of the term, can be paid for with Stripe or PayPal (no PayPal account required).
How will I know if my subscription hasn’t successfully renewed?
On the renewal date each year we will attempt to take a payment by your chosen payment method. If this payment fails then we will email you to advise that the payment attempt has been unsuccessful and provide more details on how to update your details. If you have any concerns then please call on 0203 696 5730 or email us and we will be happy to assist.
I’m a subscriber, but the latest issue hasn’t arrived in the post. What should I do?
If you are a subscriber to The Nightwatchman then each issue should arrive at your door on or around the release date of each issue. If you have not received your copy 7 days after the release date and believe you have a current subscription then please email us and we will investigate.
How do I cancel a subscription?
If you no longer wish to receive The Nightwatchman then you just need to let us know before the renewal date and we will cancel your subscription for the following year. You can let us know that you wish to cancel by email or by calling us on 0203 696 5730.
Can I start a subscription with a previous issue?
You can purchase a subscription starting with the current or next issue. If you wish to receive any back issues as part of your order, then these are available in our annual bundles or as single issues.
I only wish to subscribe for one year, without my subscription renewing automatically. Is this possible?
If you wish to receive The Nightwatchman for the upcoming year, but not automatically renew the subscription on the renewal date next year, then our 12-month subscriptions (four issues starting with the current/next issue) or annual bundles (all four issues form a calendar year) are the perfect product for you. These work in a similar way to a subscription in that the issues arrive at your door as they are released for the duration of the subscription/annual bundle, but they do not automatically renew each year. These can be set to start with an issue that has already been released, and can be paid for using Stripe, PayPal (no PayPal account required) or ordered over the phone.
You can find 12-month subscriptions here and annual bundles here. If you would like to start a subscription with any issue other than the current/next issue, email us and we will set up a bespoke bundle for you.
How do I update my address details?
If your delivery address has changed, please email us and we will update our records.
How are the new EU VAT Regulations affecting my EU subscription?
New EU VAT regulations introduced on 1 July 2021 mean that we have temporarily had to stop delivering to EU member states. For information on how this affects current subscribers and prospective customers please click here

How do I check the status of my order?
Simply log in on our website and click on ‘My Account’. You should be able to see your order history and status and your billing and shipping address. If you have any queries or concerns about your order, please email us giving a brief description of the problem.
How do I order back issues?
Simple. Just go to BUY – Single Issues and you’ll find all back issues available there.
My order status is showing as ‘pending’ or ‘processing’. What does this mean?
It means that we have your order, but that we have not received confirmation from PayPal that your payment has cleared. The notification from PayPal to our systems isn’t always instantaneous, and sometimes takes a little while. You do not need to resubmit your order or attempt to pay again; there is no way that you can speed up the process, but it is nothing to worry about. Should there be any problem with your order, we will get in touch. If this status doesn’t change within 24 hours then please email us and we will investigate.
Shipping
Which countries is The Nightwatchman delivered to?
The Nightwatchman is delivered worldwide. The shipping charge will depend on whether you live in the UK, Europe or elsewhere and will be automatically calculated based on the shipping address you provide. We’re sorry it’s quite expensive to ship The Nightwatchman to non-UK destinations, and want to assure you that this is entirely a reflection of the high postage costs.
How do I check shipping costs?
You can check the shipping costs of your order in your basket when checking out, by default in the ‘Cart Totals’ it will show shipping costs for UK delivery. To check for another destinations click on the ‘Calculate Shipping’ link, select the appropriate country and click on update totals.
How long will my print copy of The Nightwatchman take to arrive?
Deliveries to the UK typically take between one and three days from the date of dispatch to reach the customer. Overseas delivery times are naturally longer – deliveries to Europe typically take between five and eight days to arrive, and other deliveries can take up to fifteen days.
Orders are normally dispatched on the next working day. Therefore, the maximum you should have to wait to receive your order should be:
UK address: 4 working days
Europe address: two weeks
Rest of the world address: three weeks
If you think your copy may have been lost in the post, please email us and we’ll look into it for you. For UK orders, we will consider the item lost in transit if it has not arrived within 10 working days of the date of dispatch. For European orders this period is 15 working days, and for non-European orders it is 20 working days.

What formats are digital versions available in?
At the moment The Nightwatchman is available in ePub and pdf formats. When you subscribe or buy a single issue, both formats will be available for you to download immediately. The ePub format is suitable for use on an iPad, Sony Reader, iPhone, Kobo, Nook, BeBook, Amazon Kindles, Desktop Computer and other eBook Readers. It can also be converted for any devices requiring a mobi format file. The pdf is suitable for desktop computer and laptop reading and requires Adbobe Acrobat Reader (which is free-to-download software here).
I’ve bought a subscription or a single issue, but can’t seem to access my digital version?
You can find your digital versions, in either an Epub or PDF file format, in the ‘My Account’ section on the website. Once you have logged in, you will be able to access the downloads by clicking on the ‘view button’ next to your active subscription or the relevant order if you have purchased a single issue or annual bundle.
There may be a short delay between placing an order and the digital versions appearing on your account. If these haven’t appeared 24 hours after having placed your order then please email us and we will investigate.
NB: With every purchase of a print product we also throw in a free digital copy, so if you’d like to read it in the digital version from time to time then check your account.
I can’t get my download to work on my iPad/Kindle/tablet device/iPhone! Help!
In order to download the ePub version on your Apple device (iPad, iPhone, iPod), you need to have iBooks installed. You can get this from iTunes here.
On Android devices, due to the wide variety of web-browsers and app compatibility, you can download any number of applications to open the ePub version. Some of our favourites are Aldiko and the ever popular Kindle app. If you’re still having problems downloading directly on your Android device, you can still download it to your PC and sync it to your device. For more information on how to do this, please refer to the manual that comes with your device.
Each Kindle also comes with its own email address, and you can email the epub version directly to your device. Here’s how to do it: (1) go to settings and you should be able to find the address (it’ll be something like … [name]@free.kindle.com), (2) then download the epub file from our website (i.e., My Account) onto your PC or laptop, (3) e-mail it to yourself at your Kindle e-mail address, and (4) open up your Kindle e-mail on your Kindle and download the epub file you just sent to yourself. That should do it!
If you’re really stuck, email us and we’ll do our best to help.

I want to write for The Nightwatchman. What should I do?
We very much appreciate your enthusiasm. We suggest that anyone wishing to write for us should read The Nightwatchman to get an understanding of our editorial style and subject matter. Pitches should be e-mailed here.
Please bear in mind that as a quarterly publication it is unlikely that we will be able to feature many more than about fifty to sixty writers in any one year, so competition is fierce. By sheer weight of numbers the vast majority of pitches will inevitably have to be turned down. Sorry.
